Resume Advice - Here is some Resume Advice working with ThinkJObs

FAQ by Job Seekers

About resumes

When is it OK to send ThinkJobs a new copy of my resume? We will only need a new resume from you . . .

> If you slant your resume toward a different emphasis
> If you are updating your resume with new skills, experiences, addresses, phone numbers, etc.

NOTE: We do not keep multiple copies of your resume on file--only the most recent copy you have sent us.

> What can I do to make my resume better?
> Make sure that it is easily readable. Use easy to read fonts like
> Arial, Courier, Times or Helvetica.
> Use all the appropriate keywords for your skill
- If you are qualified for a particular job, make sure this information is on your resume.
- Clients want to see details about your work history and qualifications.

> Make sure your resume has a name, and current address and phone number. You would be surprised at how many resumes we get with no way of knowing who it is from or how to reach the person who sent it to us. If you move, be sure to update your address and phone number.

> Why do I need to focus on keywords?
The most important step in the ThinkJobs system is conducting the keyword search--matching your skills with a company’s requirements. This process is what gives ThinkJobs the ability of placing the right people in the right job. Soon after our Account Manager is given the order for a new job opening, the Research Analyst searches the ThinkJobs database of nearly 2 million potential candidates for a match.

> Do I need to include a cover letter with my resume?
No, a cover letter is not needed with your resume. In fact, we discard all cover letters, so make sure all pertinant information that will qualify you for a job is included in your resume.

> Getting calls from ThinkJobs

> Why do I get so many calls from ThinkJobs? Soon after our Account Manager is given the order for a new job opening, the Research Analyst searches the ThinkJobs.com database of nearly 2 million potential candidates for a match. If your job skills and experience appear to match the requirements of one of our openings, you will be called to discuss the job opening. Because of ThinkJobs aggressive approach to finding people for jobs, ThinkJobs may call you many times until we find a match. If we are calling you frequently, you must be one of the best!

After you express interest in a position during the initial call, recruiters will
only call you . . .

> To get more information
> To set up interviews or tests
> To tell you where and when to start your new job

> ThinkJobs already has my resume, why do I need to answer more questions?
On the Apply Form and when you talk on the phone with a recruiter, there are questions for candidates to answer. These are there because the client wants additional information to confirm that the candidate is a good match for this specific job. Concise, accurate answers work best.

When you are on the website, please do not cut and paste your resume to answer these questions. This space is for additional information you can provide, but there is no need for you to write an essay.

> Why don't I ever get call backs from ThinkJobs?
If you are not getting called by an ThinkJobs Recruiter with feedback after you have applied for a job, it usually means . . .

> Your resume does not the match the keywords of the requirements for the client's position, or The hiring company has not gotten back with us to schedule interviews.

> Contacting ThinkJobs

> What's the easiest way to reach a Senior Recruiter to talk about a position
I applied for? No need to play phone tag--almost anyone at ThinkJobs can help you with information about a job or with the apply process. Senior Recruiters, the Help Desk, and the night staff all have access the same centralized database and should be able to answer your questions.

What do I need to do when I talk to someone at ThinkJobs? When you call about a job . . .Have the job number handy
We know your time is valuable. We can help you much faster if we don't have to waste your time while we are looking for the job in our system. Call when you can talk freely about your salary expectations, work experiences, etc.

Career path

> Which is better, taking lots of contract jobs with multiple experiences or longevity at one company? Don't be a job jumper. Most hiring companies are looking for stability in a person. They want to know that when they hire a person, that person will stay with them for a while.
