THINK has immediate permanent openings for Development Engineers with expertise in automotive Powertrain Validation / Performance Systems. These positions are offered in three locations; Detroit, MI, Fort Wayne, IN or suburban Chicago, IL. All positions will end up in Chicago over the next one to five years. Responsibilities - Develop functional vehicle level requirement documentation for performance/driveability/fuel economy
- Provide suggested design alternatives that drive product DNA, and improve system performance
- Evaluate test plans for completeness and participate in supplier conducted testing when necessary
- Suggest methods and provide technical support for keeping the sales organization informed about vehicle features/attributes to insure they spec vehicles correctly for the customer
- Direct the use of powertrain electronic features with the rest of the vehicle electrical components
- Work with the customer support organization to quickly resolve issues in the field
- Work with engine and transmission calibrators. Use computer based tools to gather and analyze data
Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology or Associate's Degree in Engineering or Technology with 10 years of engineering product development experience in an automotive/truck environment
- At least 4 years project management in engineering product development as well as 4 years experience leading others in engineer/design activities
- At least 5 years component experience (i.e. Powertrain, Body-in-White, Hardware/Software, etc.)
- At least 5 years experience developing, designing, and/or testing powertrain systems and 2 years developing and/or validating powertrain performance attributes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, highly motivated, organized and self-disciplined with the ability to lead design reviews and travel up to 50%
- A good understanding of medium/heavy duty truck industry standard serial data link protocols (SAE J1939, SAE J1587, SAE J2284)
